A Month in Australia.. and not a single written word

So as the title suggests, I have just returned from a wonderful, month long vacation. Usually when I travel I get a chance to write in my blog at least once but this trip was a little different, being a family vacation and I didn't bring any electronic devices (save my phone).. so I thought I'd update anybody interested here (or for my future viewing pleasure to reminisce about the times I was away from this dreaded snowy province). The purpose of this vacation was a wedding. Not any wedding, but one of my older, and only, beautiful sister.

(this one is a selfie for all of the people that couldn't make it btw.. so awesome!)

The wedding date was set for February 28th. We arrived the 22nd. First day was relaxing, slept while the rest of my family arrived throughout the day, and went to our first (of many) pub.. where we realized a cocktail costs $18!!! But, we were on vacation, so we splurged! We then headed to our home for the next 3 weeks, a beautiful 3 bedroom house only a few blocks from the beach! Our second day we relaxed again, ate some breakfast in our rental home and took a walk to the beach while the maid of honor and her fiance were picked up. It was a beautiful, sunny day and it felt surreal to be walking along a beach in a tank top and flip flops in February!

Then we had a barbeque to meet the rest of the bridal party and learn how to disassemble a prawn properly (See above - removing head.. then remove tail.. then the feet come off with the rest of the shell!). Also had my first taste of kangaroo... I know I know, poor little kangaroo, and "wait, weren't you a vegetarian?!".. as most of you know, I change my food preferences when I travel and am willing to eat pretty much anything!

So after a good relaxing weekend, Monday morning comes.. no real plans for the day. We then discover that my poor sister woke up feeling aweful! This was the beginning of a very emotional (and rainy just for mood) week, which resulted in that beautiful face you saw above being admitted to hospital and the wedding being postponed until March 21st. But hey, a longer vacation than planned? Who's to complain! So while she was on the mend, we got to meet the groom's side of the family, explore Sydney a little bit (wildlife park and aquarium) and, of course, visit the bride in the hospital and provide much encouragement. The weather on the planned date - tropical storm! It's like it was meant to be!

The following week, after " Dr. House" received his best case and an entire diagnostic team was in and out of her room, my sister was cured!

Then it was just about relaxing, more drinking, spending some time at a beautiful secluded beach in the Royal National Park, getting caught by a torrential down pour at that same beach (after we had got to the car and began our barbecue) and hanging out in the Blue Mountain National Park.

(oh and did I mention I got to pet a Koala? Jealous?)
Now that we got all of the rain and emotions out of the way, we began the third week eager to explore something more. We looked into the great barrier reef and the gold cost, but unfortunately we collectively decided it was just too big of an expense to do for this trip, and we were running out of time. So, me and my man decided to take a few adventures alone, my parents did the same, and so did the best friend/maid of honor and her beau. My brother just drank some more and had fun with my sister and brother-in-law while he texted his girlfriend every 5 minutes (I kid, I kid).

FINALLY, the day arrived that everybody was waiting for! The week before we had a high tea (where you drink tea from fancy tea pots and cups and saucers, and get itty bitty snacks - that are surprisingly filling) with the ladies, the boys did some fishing (unfortunately mine and the maid of honor's couldn't make it the extra time so it was just my dad, brother and brother-in-law), and we failed in helping a stressed out bride achieve all of the goals. And even when the suits didn't fit two nights before the wedding, it still all worked out in the end!!

And now.. I have returned. It is snowing. Two days ago it was -20. I think I'm ready for another vacation!
