Self improvement day 2

So far so good. I find posting here is really helping me stay motivated to use my days the best I can. Sure, it's only day 2 but all I need is a week or two and the habit will stick. I've continued my focus on health this morning, starting with Bob red mills 8 grain hot cereal with almond milk, cranberries, and coconut. Yum.

Follow that with day one of body transformers 30 day challenge for fitness and I'm feeling good... Except the fact that I had to go get some fillings in today. :(. Here's some good advice: TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH! I'm usually a teeth perfectionist, I can't go to bed without brushing, and I brush very thoroughly. I used to be so crazy about flossing, I even did it while hiking to mount Everest and around to the south east of Nepal (22 days!).. but then I went into nursing school, moved out on my own, stopped going to the dentist and, alas, stopped flossing! Why?! Why did I stop flossing?! Now I have a frozen cheek and yet another appointment for the last 2 (that's right, I'm ashamed to say I had more than one cavity) fillings next week.

Well, this is about self improvement and self discovery. The important thing is that I did finally go to the dentist, I am getting these fillings done (even if it's burning a hole in my wallet) and I'm flossing EVERY DAY, at least once a day, from now on. I'm proud to say I have flossed every day since that first dentist appointment almost 2 weeks ago. Another thing I have learned about myself is that I tend to put things off. Yes, I am a procrastinator and it's ok. I still do things other people expect of me, now I'm working on doing more for myself. For example, I am reviewing more of my nursing textbooks - especially in leu of a different kind of nursing job - and I am striving to be the best at what I do, and always be learning. One of my fears as a student was that once I became a nurse I would have no motivation to go beyond the expected and learn about the current research. I will not let that be true.

So, to help motivate anybody else struggling to get out and be happy, here's a great TED talk I watched last night:

Enjoy, and add 10 years to your life!
