I'm nearing the end of TV-free January and have already learned a lot about myself and my partner, and have accomplished a few things that I wanted to while avoiding the drama of fictional characters and indenting the groove in the couch.
Unfortunately, while we haven't watched any actual television, I have wasted a lot more time on the internet, but I'll get back to that. The first few weeks.. or maybe just the first week.. I was determined to not replace TV with internet (except the first blog post here), and focused on planning all of the little details of our wedding. First, I bought my wedding dress!!!
I am not your typical bride. I wanted something very atypical. Of course, I can't divulge the details just in case my future husband happens upon this blog and decides to start reading it again.. but I can divulge that I ended up feeling like a typical bride, trying on hundreds of dresses that all felt exactly the same, and eventually finding one that made me want to tear up every time I put it on.. and spending far way too much for one piece of clothing that I will wear once in my life. I am hoping to re-purpose it after the wedding however so we'll see how that goes. Either way, I was pretty excited to finally have that piece of the wedding done with! (of course there's still minor alterations and the hard workouts to actually feel my best in it, but the actual finding and buying of the gown is a huge weight off of my shoulders)

Then, with my TV free month, I thought I'd work on some of the crafty crafts I wanted to do for our reception.. you know, everything that Pinterest tells you should be at your wedding. So far I have completed our sample invitations (with the help of the groom of course), bought supplies for one sample centerpiece, and... organized the rest of the stuff I bought last year. Today is the day I finally start my centerpieces though! Stay tuned!
One thing this month has actually helped me accomplish, is my determination to workout and enjoy my body a little bit more. Every time I tell people like that, they give me the one-two up down look like "Seriously? You're so skinny? I wish I had your body"

.. well, from the outside, sure. I would consider myself an average, if not above average woman in health. However, I am doing this to feel better about myself and to feel even stronger than I am now. Plus, I have noticed a difference in how I was just last summer compared to now... in that, all of the chocolate I have been eating at work over the holidays has finally started to stick to all the places I never thought it could. I hate to admit it, but the closer I get to 30, the less I'm able to indulge without feeling a major difference. Anyway, I have tracked my exercise, worn my misfit (like a fitbit - thanks Mom!), and taken the stairs at work (I'll have you know it's about 150 steps to get to my unit). I took a before picture and will take monthly after pictures, and have indulged in amazing fitness videos that have actually made me feel sore after just 10 minutes! I'm working on eating healthier (I have avoided hot chocolate and the donuts at work) and am working on drinking more water!
So.. that's my major accomplishment so far from this month. Now, I have learned that when I'm lazy and don't want to do much.. well.. I don't. With or without TV, I find ways to waste time. For example, I got up this morning at 9:30 am feeling motivated. Had a shower, got dressed and decided "just an hour on the computer while I drink my tea then I'll get to doing stuff".. well.. it's 11:15 and so far, I've made and drank some tea, browsed flights for a trip I'm planning NOVEMBER, browsed Pinterest for fun outfit ideas, browsed the sites for those outfits and realized they were too expensive and it goes against my minimalist outlook on life, looked at minimalist sites to reduce clutter and.. went on this blog. So I guess I should get off and actually be motivated again. Not bad for 3 weeks of feeling accomplished though.. Now to work on cutting down both computer AND TV next month. So I'm off.. to accomplish great stuff.. like starting on those centerpieces and actually eating breakfast!
