Well, my trip has been quite a blast so far and is so beautiful. I arrived in Athens on April 25 at 2pm. After a long awaited flight I was rejoined after a long awaited time with my man and he showed me how to take the train and led me back to our hotel. After arriving I was not ready to waste a minute sleeping even though I was ready for a nap, but then the adrenalin kicked in with my arrival and I was ready to go! We took a cheesy tourist train, which we got for free due to demonstrations blocking the centre of town, did a tour of the olympic stadium, and went to the church on a top of a hill to see the view of athens. We watched the sunset, had a coffee, and went to the center of town for some delicious greek food and ouzo. Yes, I have already had my first shot of ouzo, courtesy of a restaurant that said "you must have ouzo" - it's even better when it's free!
After an early morning taxi ride, watching the sun rise as we drove we then headed to Mykonos island by the ferry. Officially, I am a tourist! I even took a billion photos of everything that I saw! Mykonos is truly a beautiful island out of a photograph. Our hotel - Hotel Milena - is also very excellent with the hotel matron providing us with a map and juice on arrival. We arrived just after noon and so decided to rent a little quad to explore the island freely. We called her "The little red Ferrari that could", and wow she tried. We got to a maximum speed of 50km/hr and that was on the downhill! I even had to get off at a point because she wouldn't go up a steep hill we drove up with both of us on it. It was an amazing day visiting beaches and watching the sunset from an abandoned hill far from the center of town. By the time we drove back the wind had crept up and it had actually gotten quite chilly - it is true that nights can be cold, but not as cold as Edmonton! I sure am glad I'm here :).
Today was a little more relaxing as we went from shop to shop and walked along the pier near the ferry ports. We woke up late but it has been a nice and relaxing day filled with Gelato and sunshine! I already have a sunburn, despite wearing sunscreen. SPF 50 every 2 hours from here on out! Well, tomorrow we head to the small island of Delos in the morning for just a few hours and then it's off to Santorini!
Here's to more sunshine!
Hey Sonja, I haven't had a chance to catch up on reading until now. All I've been doing is housework basically since we got back from the honey moon! Ahhh! It just takes so long to get things set up! But man that story about the quad is hilarious! 50km downhill! Too funny!
